The birthday of Poet Thiruvalluvar is celebrated today all over Tamil Nadu. On his birthday, Chief Minister M.K.Stalin and cabinet members offered floral tributes to his statue at Valluvar Kottam in Chennai. Special awards were distributed to those who contributed to Tamil literature.

Tiruvalluvar is also called a poet saint for his work, Thirukkural. The 1330 couplets have just seven words. Tiruvalluvar lived during the Sangam era. Tirukkural has been translated into 57 Indian and non-Indian languages.
