The Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC), the cultural arm of the High Commission of India in Colombo, organised the second Bharat-Sri Lanka Hindi Sammelan on Monday, with participation from over 400 Hindi scholars, teachers and students from both countries.
Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha inaugurated the event in the presence of Sri Lanka’s Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education, Dr. Madhura Seneviratne. Mr. Jha highlighted Hindi’s growing global importance and outlined SVCC initiatives, including scholarships, capacity-building programmes and academic exchanges to promote Hindi in Sri Lanka.
The day-long programme featured academic sessions, poetry recitals, cultural performances and the felicitation of senior Sri Lankan Hindi scholars, reflecting the deep linguistic and cultural links between India and Sri Lanka.
