Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has said that the capability of India’s domestic equipment demonstrated during the recent Operation Sindoor has increased the global demand for its defence indigenous products. Speaking at the Controllers’ Conference in New Delhi today, Mr Singh highlighted that India’s defence industries have immense possibilities. He said, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has almost achieved self-reliance in the defence sector. He said, most of the Defence equipment, which was imported previously from foreign countries, is now being manufactured in the country itself.
The Minister stressed upon defence economics in today’s era, where re-armament and related investments are rapidly increasing. Mr Singh said that toda, almost all the major countries, including the USA and European nations, are rapidly increasing their defence expenditure. He said, today, the entire world, including India, is going through a new phase of rearmament. Mr Singh highlighted that the budget of the Defence Ministry is the highest in the country.
The Minister said that recently, the government has approved the Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) scheme. Mr Singh said the scheme with a corpus of one lakh crore rupees aims to promote high-end projects and achieve critical technologies, where the defence sector has also been prioritised.
