The death toll from Sri Lanka’s worst natural disaster in two decades has climbed to 607, according to updated figures released by authorities today. At least 214 people are still reported missing following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah and subsequent landslides and floods across multiple districts.
India’s Operation Sagar Bandhu has delivered extensive post-cyclone support to Sri Lanka, providing over 58 tonnes of relief, medical centres, Bailey Bridge units, NDRF teams, helicopters, and naval assistance. India has evacuated stranded people, restored connectivity, supplied safe drinking water, and deployed field hospitals and rescue teams, ensuring rapid recovery and continued humanitarian aid.
Meanwhile, the Urban Search and Rescue teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have concluded their week-long humanitarian mission in Sri Lanka following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah. The teams carried out intensive search, rescue and relief operations in various parts of Sri Lanka rescuing and evacuating about 150 people, in addition to recovering several deceased and stranded animals.
