Counting of votes has commenced in Sri Lanka for the Local Government Elections. Voter turnout has been reported at over 60 per cent in various districts of the island nation. Voting was peaceful at over 13750 polling stations for electing almost 8300 representatives for 339 local bodies.
This is the country’s third major election in a year, following last year’s Presidential and Parliamentary polls.
