Southern Railway has issued a clarification regarding the fire incident at the two-wheeler parking area near the second entry of Thrissur Railway Station in Kerala this morning. The Railways said that the fire did not originate from overhead equipment or any railway electrical installation, and was caused by one of the parked two-wheelers.
The fire, which broke out around 6.30 a.m., was brought under control within an hour with the prompt action of Railway staff and the Fire Force. No casualties or injuries were reported.
Around 250 two-wheelers parked in the area were fully or partially damaged. Southern Railway has also refuted reports alleging a lack of permission for the parking shed, clarifying that no statutory approval is required for construction within railway premises. Investigations by the police and a departmental inquiry are in progress.
