Assamese singer Zubeen Garg was cremated with state honours today at his native village Kamarkuchi in Kamrup district near Guwahati, Assam. Several thousand people, including fans and dignitaries, paid their last respects. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Ministers Kiren Rijiju and Sarbananda Sonowal were present at the funeral. Zubeen Garg passed away in Singapore at the age of 52, where he had gone to participate in the Northeast India Festival.
