In Sikkim, a large rally in support of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, 2023 was held today in Gangtok, highlighting a strong commitment towards inclusive governance and greater participation of women in decision-making. The rally began from Deorali Tata Stand and concluded at Paljor Stadium, with the participation of over 30,000 people. Participants expressed support for the Act and raised awareness on the importance of women’s role in governance and public leadership.
Addressing the gathering, former MLA Krishna Kumari Rai said the enactment of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, 2023, marks a significant step towards inclusive governance and acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ensuring 33 per cent reservation for women in legislative bodies.
She added that under the leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, Sikkim continues to promote inclusive policies and women-led development. She further said that increased representation would ensure that women’s voices are adequately reflected in legislative and policymaking processes.
Deputy Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, Raj Kumari Thapa, said women-led development is essential for balanced growth and that greater participation of women in decision-making will strengthen governance.
