Seven Buddhist monks from Vietnam begin week-long Walk for Peace in Sri Lanka

A week-long “Walk for Peace” commences in Sri Lanka today, with seven Buddhist monks from Vietnam, led by Venerable Pannakara Thero, arriving in the country to take part in the initiative. The internationally recognised programme, held under state patronage, will continue until April 28. The delegation was accompanied by a rescue dog named Aloka.

The procession, led by the Maha Sangha, will carry a sacred Bodhi sapling sourced from the revered Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura. Several Sri Lankan institutions, including the Presidential Secretariat, key ministries, the Tri-Forces and Police, are supporting the event. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has expressed his full support and expressed hope that this spiritual initiative would help strengthen national unity and convey a profound message of peace to the global community.
