Domestic benchmark indices started the week on a negative note, with both the Sensex and the Nifty continuing their downward slide for the fourth straight session today. Investor sentiment was affected by weak first quarter corporate results so far as well as concerns over global trade tariffs.
The 30-share BSE Sensex settled at 82,253, down 247 points or 0.30 per cent, while NSE Nifty50 ended the day at 25,082, falling 68 points or 0.27 per cent.
However, broader market indices outperformed the Sensex and Nifty. The Mid-Cap index rose 0.67 per cent, while the Small-Cap index closed 0.57 per cent higher.
In the Sensex index, 10 out of 30 companies ended in the green zone, Among the top gainers, Eternal rose 2.83 per cent, Titan gained 1.23 per cent, and SunPharma added 0.54 per cent. On the other side, Asian Paints lost 1.58 per cent, Tech Mahindra slid 1.55 per cent, while Bajaj Finance shed 1.54 per cent.
In Sectoral Indices at the BSE, 15 sectors closed with gains, five with losses, while the Auto sector closed on a flat note. Realty rose 1.38 per cent and Healthcare gained 1.15. Conversely, Focused IT slipped 1.07 per cent and IT shed 0.99 per cent.
The overall market breadth at the BSE was positive as shares of 2,054 companies advanced, shares of 2,137 companies declined, while shares of 149 companies remained unchanged. At the National Stock Exchange, 80 companies hit their 52-week high, while 36 hit their 52-week low.
