Today is the foundation day of Ramkrishna Mission. On May 1, 1897, Swami Vivekananda founded the Ramakrishna Mission at the house of Balaram Basu in North Kolkata. Balaram Basu was a follower of Thakur Ramakrishna, a prominent figure in the Ramakrishna movement. The motto was to spread the ideals of Thakur Ramakrishna. The day is being observed at the Belur Math and Balaram Mandir. Special puja and rituals are also being performed today.
