Rajya Sabha Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan today administered the oath to the newly elected and re-elected members of the Upper House. Among those who took the oath are Nitin Nabin, Terash Gowalla, Jogen Mohan, Shivesh Kumar, Vinod Shridhar Tawde, Sujeet Kumar, Laxmi Verma and Sanjay Bhatia of the BJP. Besides Ram Nath Thakur of JD (U), Upendra Kushwaha of Rashtriya Lok Morcha, Abhishekh Manu Singhvi, Phulo Devi Netam, Karamvir Singh Boudh, Anurag Sharma, Vem Narendra Reddy of Congress and Promod Boro of UPP (L).
The House also paid obituary references to the passing of former Congress leader Mohsina Kidwai and renowned playback singer Asha Bhosle. Rajya Sabha Chairman Radhakrishnan said that Asha Bhosle is one of India’s most iconic and versatile playback singers. He said that she carved an unparalleled niche for herself in the world of music and cinema.
Mr. Radhakrishnan said Asha Bhosle lent her melodious voice to thousands of songs in multiple Indian languages, leaving an indelible mark on the soundscape of Indian music. He said that in recognition of her immense contribution to the field of music, she was honoured with several prestigious awards, including the Padma Vibhushan, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, and the National Film Award. Later, the House was adjourned for the day.
