Punjab Police succeeds in solving case related to murder of two cops in Gurdaspur

Punjab Police have succeeded in solving the case related to the murder of two cops in the border district of Gurdaspur last Sunday by arresting one accused and shooting the other one dead in a brief encounter this morning. Both of them, along with another accomplice, were tasked by Pakistan’s ISI to kill police personnel in Punjab in lieu of money. Two of them are teenagers.

Border Range Deputy Inspector General of the Police, Sandeep Goel, has disclosed during the press conference today that the third one is absconding and the police are on his trail.

Mr Goel said two of the accused were insiders from the same village where the police post was attacked by them after a recce and were in direct contact with the ISI handlers.

The two cops, Assistant Sub Inspector Gurnam Singh and Home Guard Ashok Kumar, who were found dead with gunshot wounds inside a checkpost in a village near the international border in Gurdaspur, were later cremated with police honours. They had been declared martyrs by the Punjab government as well.
