In Punjab, the state-level Republic Day programme was organised at Fazilka, where the Governor, Gulab Chand Kataria, unfurled the flag and took the salute from the parade. Celebrations were also held at the Attari Border in Amritsar.
Saluting the Gurus, martyrs, and freedom fighters, the Governor said Punjab’s spirit of sacrifice, valour, and progress may continue to inspire the nation.
The Governor encouraged the youth of Punjab to lead a people’s movement against drugs and channelise their energy in education, skill development, sports and entrepreneurship.
Earlier, Sh. Kataria paid homage at the Asafwala War Memorial built in memory of 232 brave hearts whose supreme sacrifice during the 1971 Indo-Pak war secured a historic victory for India.
At the world-renowned retreat ceremony at Attari Border in Amritsar, thousands of visitors celebrating the Republic Day, hailed motherland Bharat as the stadium reverberated with ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’, ‘Hindustan Zindabad’ and ‘Vande Mataram’. The visitors danced to the tunes of patriotic songs. Smartly dressed BSF personnel, full of zeal, stole the show with their precise, flawless parade during the lowering of flags at the Attari Border.
