The 107th anniversary of the end of the First World War was observed in Puducherry today. The commemoration was jointly organised by the Government of Puducherry and the French Consulate. It was on this day in November 1918 that an Armistice agreement was inked between allies of the First World War and Germany for cessation of hostilities.
French Ambassador to India Thierry Mathou, French Consul General Etienne Rolland-Piègue and Puducherry District Collector Kulothungan laid wreaths at the French War Memorial on the Beach Road to pay homage to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the First World War. Earlier, the national flags of India and France were hoisted, followed by the playing of the national anthems of both countries and observance of a moment of silence.
