The Pondicherry AIDS Control Society has rolled out a two-month intensive campaign to raise public awareness on HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases. Inaugurating the campaign, Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy said that the monthly financial assistance for children of AIDS patients will be increased to ₹3,000.
Detailing further on government’s efforts to make Puducherry HIV/AIDS free, Mr Rangasamy said that travel allowance for treatment of AIDS patients will be raised from ₹400 to ₹1,000 and nutritious food worth ₹1,300 will be provided. The Chief Minister also announced ₹15,000 as funeral assistance for families of AIDS patients. The Chief Minister released awareness posters on AIDS, and flagged off a campaign van and a students’ rally. Over a thousand students from various colleges participated in the event and rally.
