Pro-monarchist Durga Prasai faces arrest in Pokhara after controversial claims

Pro-monarchist Medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai has been arrested in Pokhara. According to the District Police Office, Kaski, following the arrest, Parsai is being sent to Kathmandu since his case is registered in Kathmandu.

Earlier, on Sunday, the Election Commission of Nepal had requested action against Prasai and had communicated with the police cyber bureau for the same.

A few days back, Parsai had released a video accusing a faction of Nepali Congress, which organised a special convention, of submitting 520 million rupees to the Commission to get recognition by the constitutional body. Over the matter, the Commission had directed the police to arrest and investigate Prasai.

Recently, in Singh Durbar, a 27-point agreement was signed between Jagdish Kharel, Communication Minister, Government of Nepal and Durga Parsai in the presence of the Prime Minister of Nepal, Sushila Karki. The Rastra, Rastriyata, Dharma, Sanskriti ra Nagarik Bachau Mahaabhiyan, led by Durga Prasai, had put forward a 27-point set of demands to the Government of Nepal.

These demands included political and constitutional changes, economic reforms, and systemic restructuring. Following the signing, the Prasai group suspended all protest activities and halted planned agitation. The deal signals official engagement by the interim government and political activists picking up peaceful ways to conduct the March election in Nepal, using formal mechanisms rather than street protests.
