President Droupadi Murmu arrived at the Biju Patnaik International Airport at Bhubaneswar this afternoon on a two-day visit to her home state, Odisha. She is scheduled to address the members of the Odisha Legislative Assembly at 4.30 this evening on the first day of the winter session of the House. This will be the first incident when a President of India will speak in the Odisha Assembly. President Murmu will visit Room Number 11 in the Odisha Assembly, the chamber where she worked during her tenure as a legislator.
The room has been renovated ahead of the President’s visit. President Murmu was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly twice from the Rairangpur Assembly Constituency in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha in 2000 and 2004. She held key portfolios in the BJD-BJP coalition government, serving as Minister of State for Commerce and Transport and later as the Minister of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development. Elaborate security arrangements have been made at Bhubaneswar for the visit of the President.
