The polling is underway for 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra. Voting is taking place for 2,869 seats spread across 893 wards. The polling, which began at 7.30 am, will conclude at 5.30 pm. More than 3 crore 48 lakh voters are eligible to cast their votes in the civic elections from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Around 44,000 control units and nearly 88,000 ballot units have been arranged for the polling process. Close to two lakh officers and employees have been deployed on election duty.
The State Government has declared a holiday for all offices in the municipal corporation areas to facilitate voting. Security has been tightened, especially at polling booths identified as sensitive. Special facilities have been provided at all polling centres for senior citizens, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities. The counting of votes for the civic elections will take place tomorrow.
