Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY) have completed 11 years of providing social security cover to citizens across the country.
Ministry of Finance said that these schemes were envisioned to extend affordable financial protection to all, particularly the underserved and vulnerable sections of society.
These flagship schemes aim to broaden the insurance and pension landscape by shielding citizens against life’s uncertainties and fostering long-term financial resilience.
Speaking about the schemes, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the Jan Suraksha schemes comprising PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, PM Suraksha Bima Yojana and Atal Pension Yojana to provide low-cost insurance and pension benefits.
She informed that over 27 crore enrolments have been done under PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, 58 crore in PM Suraksha Bima Yojana and 9 crore enrolments under Atal Pension Yojana.
Ms Sitharaman said that claims worth more than 21 thousand five hundred crore rupees for over 10.7 lakh families have been settled under the PMJJBY scheme.
The Union Finance Minister added that the PMSBY scheme has settled claims worth nearly three thousand 660 crore rupees for over 1.84 lakh families.
Ms Sitharaman appreciated all the stakeholders, including field functionaries of banks and insurance companies, whose dedicated efforts have made these schemes a huge success.
On the occasion, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said that the objective of these schemes is to provide insurance coverage and pension support to the poorest of the poor. Mr Chaudhary said that a key focus of the schemes has been digitisation and simplification of enrolment and claims.
The Minister highlighted that the launch of the online Jan Suraksha Portal has made it possible for citizens to enrol conveniently without visiting bank branches or post offices.
He added that digitising the claims process has ensured faster settlements, enabling timely support to bereaved families when they need it the most.
