Prime Minister Narendra Modi today virtually inaugurated the Safran Aircraft Engine Services India-SAESI facility in Hyderabad, Telangana. Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said that India is among the world’s fastest-growing domestic aviation markets. He said, India welcomes investment and innovation, and the Production Linked Incentive-PLI schemes have attracted global companies to choose India as their destination. The Prime Minister said that India views those who invest in the country not merely as investors but as co-creators. He added that the government regard them as stakeholders in the pursuit of a Viksit Bharat. The Prime Minister added that, to encourage global investment and industries, the government has undertaken some of the most transformative reforms in history. Mr Modi said that the SAESI facility is a significant step forward in building a self-reliant and resilient India. He stated that starting today, India’s aviation industry is prepared to embark on a new journey. He highlighted that this new facility established by Safran will contribute to positioning India as a Global Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul -MRO Hub.
SAESI is Safran’s dedicated facility for Leading Edge Aviation Propulsion- LEAP engines, which power the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The establishment of this facility marks a significant milestone, as it is one of the largest global aircraft engine MRO facilities. It is also the first time a global engine OEM (original equipment manufacturer) has set up an MRO operation in India.
Earlier, the Prime Minister formally inaugurated the dedicated Leading Edge Aviation Propulsion (LEAP) engines Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) Centre through video conferencing. The LEAP engines power the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX aircrafts. The establishment of the SAESI marks a significant milestone, as it is not only one of the largest global aircraft engine MRO facilities but also marks the first time that a global engine OEM (original equipment manufacturer) has set up an MRO operation in the country. An official release stated that the MRO, developed at a cost of over 1300 crore rupees in 45 thousand square meters at the GMR Aerospace and Industrial Park-SEZ, is designed to service up to 300 LEAP engines annually. The state-of-the-art facility will employ over thousand highly-skilled Indian technicians and engineers upon achieving full operational capacity by 2035.
The foundation stone was also laid for M88 Military Engine MRO of the Safran Aircraft Engine Services India in the presence of Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Union Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu among others. The MRO is expected to be very helpful for the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy and play a key role in achieving self-reliance in the sector.
Speaking on the occasion, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy urged the Prime Minister to declare Hyderabad-Bengaluru as Defence and Aerospace Corridor.
