Prime Minister Narendra Modi was today conferred the prestigious Agricola Medal by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) at its headquarters in Rome, Italy. Receiving the award, Mr Modi dedicated the honour to India’s millions of farmers, livestock rearers, fish farmers, agricultural scientists and workers. The medal was presented by FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu.
Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said the award reflects India’s unwavering commitment to food security, sustainable development and human welfare. He stressed that food security is not merely a policy matter, but a responsibility towards humanity.
Mr Modi said India is building a sustainable, climate-resilient and future-ready farming ecosystem, while scientific agriculture is being promoted across the country in mission mode. He noted that technology is becoming a major strength of Indian agriculture and emphasised that the future of farming lies not just in producing more, but in producing better.
The Agricola Medal is the highest honour conferred by the Director-General of the FAO. It is awarded to distinguished world leaders and individuals for exceptional and long-term contributions to global food security, sustainable agriculture, poverty reduction and improved nutrition.
