People exporting products via India Post can now avail govt export benefits

The Department of Posts has operationalised the facility to support exporters. People exporting products via India Post can now get government export benefits. It includes Duty drawback, remission of duties and taxes on exported products and rebate of state and central Taxes and levies. Earlier, such benefits were mostly available only for exports made through ports, airports, or private courier services.

The Communications Ministry said, this initiative is a major step towards simplifying and broadening access to exports, especially for  Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, artisans, start-ups and small exporters, who largely depend on the postal network for low- and medium-value international consignments. The facility has been made effective from 15 January, in pursuance of notifications issued by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, CBIC.

The Ministry added that the Exports through the postal channel are facilitated through Dak Ghar Niryat Kendras- DNKs, a joint initiative of the Department of Posts and CBIC, providing end-to-end export facilitation under one roof. At present, over one thousand DNKs are operational across the country, enabling exporters from even remote and underserved regions to access global markets.
