Pakistan has been ranked among the world’s top 10 countries facing acute hunger. The 2026 Global Report on Food Crises places it alongside countries such as Afghanistan, Nigeria and Yemen as major centres of food insecurity. Around 11 million people in Pakistan faced severe food insecurity in 2025.
The report attributes the situation largely to extreme weather, noting that heavy monsoon rains and floods in 2025 affected over six million people, damaging crops and infrastructure. It also warned that rising inflation, projected at 6 per cent in 2026, could further strain food security across the country.
