The government has said that over four crore 53 lakh bank accounts have been opened under the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana with total deposits of more than three lakh 33 thousand crore rupees. The scheme was launched in January 2015 under the government’s initiative to save the girl child under the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign.
It is a small savings scheme and currently the interest rate under the scheme is 8.2 per cent. The account can be opened anytime from the birth of a girl child until she attains the age of ten years. The Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana has become a powerful symbol of hope and empowerment for millions of young girls, reflecting the government’s commitment to nurturing their dreams and securing their futures.
