The government has said that over one crore 64 lakh houses have been sanctioned so far under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) since its inception. This was stated by the Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu while replying to supplementary questions in the Lok Sabha today.
The Minister said that out of the total sanctioned houses, more than 98 lakh houses have been completed and handed over to the beneficiaries. He said that over one crore people have availed the benefit of this scheme with the central assistance of two lakh crore rupees. He said, the government is working with the vision of Sabka Saath-Sabka Vikas and with this mantra, over 22 lakh houses have been sanctioned to people belonging to minority communities, 24 lakh houses to scheduled tribe and scheduled caste communities and 42 lakh houses to OBC communities. Mr Sahu also said that 90 lakh houses have been sanctioned to women.
