Bollywood actor Aamir Khan today said, there are not enough movie screens in India as only 2 per cent of the population or roughly 3 crore people, watch the biggest hits in theatres. He also said, the business model of movies in India currently is very faulty and there needs to be a longer waiting period between theatrical release and OTT release.
Mr Khan was addressing a panel discussion during the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit – WAVES in Mumbai. The actor said, India only has 9 thousand 200 screens while the United States, with a far lower population, has 40 thousand screens and China with 90 thousand screens. Mr Khan also applauded WAVES for helping the nation become a leader in media and entertainment.
Film producer Ritesh Sidhwani, talking to Akashvani News, said, WAVES has presented an opportunity that Indian cinema never had before and brought the attention of the world to India.
