The Odisha government has put all district administrations and its departments on high alert in view of the expected cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal by Monday. State Minister Suresh Pujari said in Bhubaneswar that enough relief material has been arranged and all district collectors have been kept on high alert.
The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast that the low-pressure area, formed over the Southwest Bay of Bengal, is likely to move west-north-westwards and intensify into a depression over southeast and adjoining central Bay of Bengal by today. The system is likely to intensify further into a deep depression by tomorrow and into a cyclonic storm over southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal by Monday.
The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts of Odisha for at least three days starting Monday.
