The North East monsoon has become vigorous as deep depression located near North Tamilnadu and South Andhra Coast remained stationary during the past six hours about 50 km east of Chennai, 160 km east of Cuddalore and 140 km south of Nellore. It is very likely to recurve slowly south southwestwards and weaken into a depression during the next 12 hours. The minimum distance of the centre of the deep depression from North Tamilnadu Puducherry coast is about 35 km. The weather department has raised a red alert to Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu and Kanchipuram districts for another 24 hours. Light to moderate rains are likely to continue at one or two places at Ranipet, Tirupattur, Villupuram and Cuddalore districts. Port signal warning number 3 has been hoisted at Chennai, Ennore, Kattupalli, Puducherry, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam and Karaikal ports. Schools have been declared in many districts owing to the adverse weather conditions.
