No Country Can Dictate India’s Foreign Relations: External Affairs Minister Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar today said that no country has a say on how India develops its relations with others. Addressing an event in New Delhi, Dr Jaishankar underlined that India has a freedom of choice in geopolitics and enjoys strategic autonomy. He also dismissed that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit would negatively affect India’s relationship with the US or stall the expected Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with them. He disclosed that there is no lack of communication or negotiations with the American side. Talking about India’s geopolitical ambitions, the minister noted that for a rising country that is expected to occupy an even more important place, it is crucial that all key relations are in good repair. He added that the country wants to optimise its position and maintain cooperation with as many players as possible, in line with its non-alignment policy.
