The National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) today inaugurated the exhibition ‘Ghika: A Journey to India’. The exhibition showcases documents and works of art by the artist Nikos Ghika related to his travels across India. The inaugural ceremony was attended by the Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Vivek Agarwal, Director General of NGMA, Dr Sanjeev Gautam Kumar, and the Ambassador of Greece to India, Aliki Koutsomitopoulou. This exhibition will be on display for the public at NGMA, Jaipur House, for the next two months.
During the inaugural event, the Ambassador of Greece to India, Aliki Koutsomitopoulou, said that the exhibition underscores cultural ties between India and Greece. She said the exhibition is important and interesting to see India of that period through the artist’s perspective, highlighting the historical and artistic value of the collection. She also urged everyone to visit the exhibition and experience the works first-hand.
Director General of NGMA, Sanjeev Kishor Gautam, said that the exhibition showcases Greek artist Ghika’s work featuring 39 India-inspired artworks, emphasising cultural exchange between India and Greece. He said the exhibition includes black-and-white drawings created with pen and ink, charcoal, and pencil, drawn from Ghika’s travels across India.
