Nepal: PM Sushila Karki Receives 1,000-Page Report on September 8–9 Gen-Z Protests

The Investigation Commission investigating the incidents of September 8 and 9 during the Gen-Z protests has handed over a comprehensive 1,000-page report to Prime Minister Sushila Karki. The commission is led by former Justice Gauri Bahadur Karki, included members as former Nepal Police Additional Inspector General Bigyan Raj Sharma and legal expert Bishweshwar Prasad Bhandari as its members. The Commission had interrogated approximately 200 individuals. In the report, the recommendation of the Commission against those deemed guilty is based on consultations with experts.

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has affirmed that the report received from the September 8 and 9 Incidents Investigation Commission will be studied by the Home Ministry and council of Ministers and be put into implementation. It was found that the tendency of power-sharing even in constitutional appointments among political parties had increased public anger.

The report included suggestions so that such incidents do not happen in the future. The report has not been made public. Commission members stated that the report is only for review. It was suggested that recommendations for good governance in the report, if implemented, would change nations’ situations significantly.
