Nepal Election Commission Extends Voter Registration Deadline to November 21

The Election Commission of Nepal has extended the deadline for voter registration by five days, granting citizens until November 21 to enrol for the upcoming House of Representatives election on March 5. The deadline was previously set for today.

The Election Commission has made arrangements to provide biometric details as photo and fingerprints, using national identity cards from November 13 to manage the pressure of voter registration. The Commission is carrying out voter registration and update work targeting the upcoming election of members of the House of Representatives scheduled for March 5.

Prime Minister Sushila Karki had urged the Commission to accommodate the sharp rise in citizens seeking to register. The appeal follows an unprecedented surge in online registrations after the government allowed online registration for voters without having to go to the registration centre.
