The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognisance of the murder of a woman in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. The Commission has condemned the incident and issued a letter to the Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police in this regard.

Terming the alleged killing as barbaric and reprehensible, the NCW said it amounts to a grave violation of a woman’s right to life, dignity and safety. The Commission has asked the State DGP to conduct a strict and time-bound investigation, take stringent action against the accused, and provide comprehensive support to the victim’s family.

The NCW has also sought a detailed action taken report within five days.
