National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), in collaboration with the Government of Assam, held a Zonal Capacity Building and Awareness Workshop for the Northeast Region today in Guwahati.
Dr. Vinita Aggarwal, Executive Member, NCVET, set the context for the deliberations. In her address, she highlighted the unique opportunities and challenges of skill development in the Northeast, emphasising that skill initiatives must move beyond policy frameworks to effectively reach the state level. She underscored NCVET’s role as a facilitator in bringing coherence to the skilling ecosystem through unified standards and robust certification mechanisms. Shri Gyanendra Dev Tripathi, Principal Secretary, Skill, Employment & Entrepreneurship Department, Government of Assam, delivered the inaugural address.
In her address, Dr. Neena Pahuja, Executive Member, NCVET, emphasized the paradigm shift towards future skilling, underscoring the need to align vocational training with the demands of a technology-driven economy. She highlighted Artificial Intelligence (AI) as not just a disruptive force but also a transformative enabler, calling for skilling ecosystems to integrate AI competencies across sectors.
The workshop brought together key stakeholders from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura, including representatives from State Skill Development Missions, State Councils, Universities, and Technical Boards.
In the closing remarks Dr Suhas Deshmukh, Director, NCVET, emphasised the importance of building synergy between states and NCVET to drive convergence and ensure effective implementation of skill development programs.
