Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has dismantled an international drug trafficking network operating across Nepal, India and Sri Lanka.
A coordinated operation by the NCB Chennai Zonal Unit, along with the Hyderabad Zonal Unit, led to the seizure of over 77 kilograms of hashish oil and 2 kilograms of charas.
A fishing boat used to transport the contraband was also recovered. In a statement, the NCB said five persons, including a Sri Lankan refugee, have been arrested so far.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the charas and hashish oil were smuggled into India from Kathmandu in Nepal through the Sonauli Indo-Nepal border.
Around 78 kilograms of hashish oil had already been delivered by the arrested persons at Thoothukudi for onward trafficking to Sri Lanka by sea route. NCB’s Chennai Unit flung into action and seized Hashish Oil from them.
