Director General of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Anurag Garg, held a meeting with the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) in Tripura to strengthen efforts against drug trafficking in the state. According to the NCB, the meeting focused on enhancing narcotics intelligence and enforcement to curb the drug menace. It said that a network-centric enforcement approach was discussed, along with measures to eliminate illegal cannabis cultivation and ensure effective prosecution of drug kingpins.
The use of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PITNDPS) Act against habitual offenders was also emphasised. Discussions highlighted the importance of leveraging the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID) for comprehensive, 360-degree investigations, including financial probes.
The NCB stressed the need for capacity building of the ANTF to enable it to effectively lead anti-drug operations in the state. The importance of outcome-oriented Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) meetings and the effective use of state-level Joint Coordination Committee meetings for better inter-agency collaboration were also highlighted.
