The death toll in the devastating fire at a warehouse in Nazirabad, South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal, has risen to eight. Several people are still missing. Firemen are still battling with persistent pocket fires to prevent further escalation.

 

The tragedy has sparked a fierce political row, with the BJP launching a scathing attack on the state government. Union Minister of State and former BJP state president Dr Sukanta Majumdar criticised the Fire Minister’s absence during the crisis and alleged that the state administration is suppressing the actual death toll. He accused the government of negligence and the loss of innocent lives.
