National School of Drama to hold 25th Bharat Rang Mahotsav from 27 January

National School of Drama (NSD) has announced that the 25th edition of Bharat Rang Mahaotsav (BRM) -International Theatre Festival of India will be held from the 27th of this month in Delhi and other cities of India. The theme of this year’s festival is Samvaad, Sanskritiyon ka. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi today, Director of National School of Drama Chittaranjan Tripathy said that BRM will showcase a rich spectrum of performing arts, including dance-drama form of theatre, puppet theatre and traditional theatre forms.
 
He further said that special segments such as Adi Rang Mahotsav, Jashn-e-Bachpan and Bal Rang Mahotsav will be the key highlights of the festival. Mr Tripathy noted that this mahotsav is the world’s largest theatre festival, reaffirming India’s role as a vibrant hub of global theatre and performing arts.
 
The NSD Director also highlighted that this year’s festival will feature plays directed by 33 women directors. People from various sections of society, including specially-abled persons, transgender community and local theatre groups will also perform in BRM. He added that at least one country from each continent will participate in the festival.
 
Mr Tripathy informed that this edition significantly expands its linguistic and cultural canvas with performances in Maithili, Bhojpuri, Tulu, Urdu, Sanskrit, Tai Khamti, Nyishi, alongside almost all major Indian languages and several tribal and endangered languages. He informed that for the first time, several new centres have been added, including Ladakh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Daman and Diu, Aizawl, Tura, Nagaon, Mandi and Rohtak. The festival will run till the 20th of next month.
