The total number of subscribers enrolled under the National Pension System (NPS) has reached two crore and 17 lakh as of March this year.
A Pension provides a steady monthly income to people during their unproductive years. Regulated by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority, the scheme provides long-term financial security to citizens after retirement.
The assets under management has reached around 16 lakh crore rupees under NPS.
The Atal Pension Yojana has also crossed 8.96 crore enrolments. Launched in May 2015, the scheme aims to build a universal social security system for citizens, particularly workers in the unorganised sector.
The scheme is open to individuals aged 18 to 40 years who have a savings account with a bank or post office.
