Nation remembers Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary; President, Vice President and PM pay tribute

The nation is paying homage to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, on his 78th death anniversary and Martyrs’ Day today. On this occasion, a Sarva-Dharma Prarthana was organised at Gandhi Samadhi, Rajghat, in New Delhi.

President Droupadi Murmu visited Rajghat and offered tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. Vice President C P Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at his memorial.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid tribute to the Father of the Nation on his death anniversary. In a social media post, Mr Shah said that revered Bapu united a nation divided by language, region, and caste, giving the freedom movement its vast expanse. The Minister further lauded Gandhi’s vision in building a glorious India by weaving together Swadeshi, independence, and cleanliness into a single thread.

Every year on 30th January, the nation honours the life and legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, who was the guiding light of the country’s struggle for independence. The day is also observed as Martyrs’ Day, or Shaheed Diwas, to pay tribute to all freedom fighters and martyrs who laid down their lives for India’s independence and unity.
