The Madhya Pradesh High Court today declared the Bhojshala complex in Dhar district a Hindu temple. The court said that a temple of Goddess Saraswati existed here and the site was a centre of Sanskrit learning. The Muslim side calls it Kamal Maula Mosque. The court cancelled the earlier order that allowed Muslims to offer namaz at the site. It said that the Muslim side can approach the government for alternative land to build a mosque.
The verdict was given by a bench of Justice Vijay Kumar Shukla and Justice Alok Awasthi. The court reached its conclusion based on the Archaeological Survey of India’s report and archaeological evidence. It also said that the tradition of Hindu worship at this site never stopped. The court has handed over the administration and management of the complex to the ASI and the central government.
