MP Anurag Thakur Criticizes TN Govt Over Temple Lamp Issue

BJP MP Anurag Singh Thakur today criticised the Tamil Nadu government for not allowing Hindus to light lamps at the Subramaniya Swamy temple, on Thirupparankundram hill, saying it is contempt ofthe  Madras High Court order. Raising the matter during the Zero Hours, in Lok Sabha, Mr Thakur said that the state government deliberately ignored the court order and lathi-charged the Hindu devotees for lighting lamps. He further alleged that the Stalin government willfully disobeyed Justice GR Swaminathan’s order.

Raising objections to his remarks, DMK MPs trooped into the well and shouted slogans, which led to the adjournment of the House till 2 PM. The issue of lighting lamps at the Subramaniya Swamy Temple, on Thirupparankundramhill, rocked the state on December 3, following a judgment from Justice Swaminathan allowing the ritual on a pillar near a Dargah. This became the breaking point for the INDIA block to seek impeachment of the judge.
