The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation today organised its third Sensitization-cum-Review Meeting with Statistical Advisers from various ministries and departments in New Delhi.
The meeting was attended by NITI Aayog CEO, B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, Chief Economic Advisor, Dr. V. Anantha Nagaeswaran, and MoSPI Secretary, Dr. Saurabh Garg, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subhramanyam highlighted that statistical advisors across the government have a major role to play and underscored the need to move towards a data and evidence-based decision-making process.
He also emphasised on sharing of best practices and cross-transfer knowledge of statistical systems. He further underscored that the data business is essential for a Viksit Bharat.
Further, Dr V Anantha Nageswaran stated that meetings like these provide a collaborative platform for central ministries and departments. He also noted that India has been elected as a member of the United Nations Statistical Commission.
Dr Nageswaran asserted that India’s National Statistical System can play a very crucial role in showcasing itself across the globe, leveraging its own rich statistical heritage. He also emphasised creating statistical data that is timely, credible and user-friendly to refer to.
