Union Minister of State (MoS) for Rural Development and Communications Pemmasani Chandrasekhar today said Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh should be developed as a model for modern and sustainable agriculture. He stressed the need for village-wise crop planning and systematic agricultural development across the district.
During a review meeting held at the Guntur District Collectorate today, the Minister directed officials to prepare practical crop plans for every mandal and village, ensuring the adoption of scientific cultivation practices. He suggested developing at least one seed village in each mandal and holding gram sabhas to create awareness among farmers.
At the meeting, officials informed that the district has around one lakh tweny thousand farmers and thirty thousand tenant farmers. The Minister said an effective communication system must be established to deliver timely information to all farmers. He also instructed agricultural authorities to create a dedicated YouTube channel through the agricultural university to provide continuous, mandal-wise guidance to farmers.
The Minister laid the emphasis on discouraging stubble burning, promoting farm mechanisation, and organising large-scale agricultural machinery exhibitions in every constituency, involving companies and at least ten thousand farmers over three days. He highlighted the need to reduce cultivation costs, encourage multi-cropping, and increase farmers’ income.
