Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai today introduced the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, in the Lok Sabha. The bill aims to further amend the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010.
Moving the Bill, Mr Rai said, the objective of the Bill is to make the use of foreign contributions more transparent and accountable. The Minister said that if anyone attempts to act against the spirit of the Constitution, laws and the national interest, the government will not tolerate it and will take necessary action in accordance with the law. Mr Rai said the purpose of the legislation is to ensure that any institution, be it an educational institution or an NGO that seeks to serve the nation, and whose objectives are in line with the sovereignty and integrity of India, will not be obstructed.
However, some opposition members, including Manish Tiwari of Congress and Pratima Mondal of TMC, opposed the introduction of the Bill.
