Legendary actor, director, and producer Mohanlal will be conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2023. In a social media post, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting informed that on the recommendation of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee, the government has decided to confer the award to the Malayalam actor for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw congratulated Mr. Mohanlal for being selected for the award. He said that from the Adipoli, beautiful land of Kerala to audiences worldwide, his work has celebrated India’s culture and magnified its aspirations. Mr. Vaishnaw added that the legacy of Mr. Mohanlal will keep inspiring India’s creative spirit. More from our correspondent:
Having started his film journey at an early age, Mohanlal has worked in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi films. The cinematic journey of Mr. Mohanlal inspires generations and his unmatched talent, versatility, and relentless hard work have set a golden standard in Indian film history. The government of India previously honoured the actor with Padma Shri in 2001 and Padma Bhushan in 2019. He received the Best Feature Film Award for Vanaprastham as a producer. The Dadasaheb Phalke award will be presented to the actor at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony on the 23rd of this month in New Delhi. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is presented by the Government to recognise outstanding contributions to the growth and development of Indian cinema.
