Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma met Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi to press for early approval of key road projects in the state. During the meeting held on today, the Chief Minister urged the Centre to designate the Aizawl-Thenzawl road as a National Highway. Mr Gadkari informed that a Detailed Project Report is currently under preparation and formal sanction is expected soon.
Mr Lalduhoma also sought strengthening of the Mamit-Bairabi stretch of NH-06. The Union Minister assured that the project would be approved shortly. On improving the Vairengte-New Vervek stretch of NH-306A, Mr Gadkari said approval would follow after necessary revisions to the proposal submitted by the state Public Works Department.
The two leaders discussed upgrading the NH-502 stretch from Zero Point to Siaha into a double-lane highway. Mr Gadkari emphasised the need to address high land acquisition costs, assuring swift action once resolved.
Highlighting connectivity with Tripura, the Chief Minister requested early sanction for the construction of Teirei and Langkaih bridges in Mamit district. Mr Gadkari advised submission of revised project reports for quick clearance.
Mr Lalduhoma also raised concerns about six neglected road stretches previously under National Highways. The Minister assured resurfacing work if their status is confirmed. The Chief Minister proposed concrete roads for durability. Mr Gadkari said this would be considered, especially given rising bitumen prices, and directed officials of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited to examine the proposal.
