Minister Amit Shah Announces New Initiatives to Boost Cooperative Sector

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah today stated that the government is working relentlessly to expand the scope of the cooperative sector, and will soon launch initiatives like Cooperative Taxi, Cooperative Insurance, and Cooperation Among Cooperatives project across the country. Addressing the inaugural session of the NABARD-IAMAI Earth Summit 2025 at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, the Minister reiterated that the dream of Viksit Bharat will not be possible without strengthening rural economies. He stressed that the growth of the cooperative sector will automatically ensure rural and agricultural development.
                                                                            
The Minister said the government is aiming to increase the cooperative sector’s contribution to the nation’s GDP by three-fold in the coming years. He said that the ‘Cooperation Among Cooperatives’ project will ensure all cooperative institutions maintain bank accounts in cooperative banks.

Emphasizing technology adoption, Mr Shah noted that NABARD’s Sahakar Sarthi initiative will prove beneficial for rural cooperative banks. During the session, the Minister launched several initiatives, including Sahakar Sarthi, Sahakar Setu, Abhiyan Sathi, and PACS Sathi, all aimed at strengthening the rural banking system. The two-day Summit focuses on the theme ‘Empowering Rural Innovation for Global Change’.Earlier in the day, Mr Shah inaugurated Swadeshotsav at the GMDC Ground in Ahmedabad. Later, the Minister will dedicate several public amenities and civic projects in his Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency, including a newly constructed Railway Overbridge and an Underbridge Sports Complex. In the evening , He will attend the closing ceremony of the Sansad Sports Festival, followed by the inauguration of the Ahmedabad Shopping Festival.
