Metro parapet section collapse in Mulund: CM Eknath Shinde orders suspension of Executive Engineer

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has ordered the immediate suspension of Executive Engineer Satyajit Salve following an accident on Metro Line 4 (Wadala-Kasarvadavali corridor) in Mulund on Saturday.

One person lost his life in the incident and three others were injured.

Expressing condolences to the family of the deceased, Mr Shinde said that the medical expenses of those injured would be borne by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

The MMRDA has also constituted a high-level inquiry into the fall of a parapet segment near Pier P196 on the under-construction Mumbai Metro Line 4 corridor.

The authority has imposed financial penalties based on prima facie responsibility – Rs 5 crore on contractor RAJV Milan Infra and Rs 1 crore on the General Consultant consortium comprising DB Engineering and Consulting, Hill International Inc., and Louis Berger Consulting Pvt. Ltd.

Further action, including possible blacklisting, will be considered after the final report is submitted.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed deep grief over the incident and announced a thorough investigation.

He said the probe would examine safety measures, construction precautions and related aspects, and assured that strict action would be taken against those found responsible.

The state government has announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh for the family of the deceased and will bear the full medical expenses of the injured.

The Chief Minister added that an immediate safety audit would be conducted at all similar construction sites to prevent such incidents in future.
